QuickBurst E-Match Kit

Now you will be able to make e-matches for your ejection charges that are comparable to commercial matches. QuickBurst E-Match chips are constructed from 50 gauge nichrome bridged chips. These chips are just as sensitive as their commercial counterparts. Each kit comes with complete documentation. Follow the instructions to the letter and your matches will perform flawlessly. Each kit will make 20 matches and you will have plenty of H-3 dip left over. Next time you need e-matches just order the pre-soldered chips with leads. These matches have been tested using the PerfectFlite MAWD altimeter and the Ozark Aerospace ARTS2. The ARTS2 altimeter was tested using both the single and the double battery configuration, both fired the matches perfectly. To date there have been no failures. Please note that these matches are recommended for ejection charges only. They work equally well with Pyrodex or Black Powder.

You do not need a Federal Explosives Permit to purchase the E-Match Kit. However once the materials are mixed and the matches are dipped all Federal Explosive laws apply. Please visit the ATF website for details.

Each Kit Contains:

20 - Preasembled chips with 12" firing wire leads.

3.75 grams - Potassium Chlorate (200 mesh fine oxidizer).

1.25 - grams- Air Float charcoal (fuel).

1.25 - grams Nitrocellulose (shipped wet).

Wooden Stir Sticks (use nothing else).

Full documentation.

Things you will need to supply:

Acetone, available at most hardware or home improvement stores.

Household heating pad (go out and buy a new one, use it for drying your stuff only. Keep it separate from your home heating pad). Another option is to dry the nitrocellulose under a light bulb.

Procedure:

Mix nitrocellulose lacquer

The kit contains enough nitrocellulose to make 25 grams of 5% nitrocellulose lacquer (NCL). You will have NCL left over. This is handy for adding a final coat of NC lacquer to the finished matches.

Your nitrocellulose has been shipped wet due to shipping requirements, It contains 25% water. In order to use it, it must be dried. Here is what I do, you will need a heating pad. Place the wet NC between layers of towel paper, sandwich style, covered both top and bottom. Now sandwich the package in your heating pad. Let stand on high heat over night. the next morning you NC will be as dry as toast and can be used. It cannot be used wet.

Add all of the dried nitrocellulose to an acetone resistant jar labeled NCL. Add 24 grams of Acetone. Stir after about an hour. Let sit, stirring occasionally until the NC is dissolved. You will have a thin clear liquid when all is done. Sit aside and save.

Mix H-3

Make sure there are no clumps in the oxidizer. Crush inside the plastic container by rolling a dowel rod over it, or screen. It needs to be clump free.

Add all of the oxidizer (potassium chlorate) to the acetone resistant white plastic jar labeled H-3. Now add some of the NC Lacquer. Stir well. You should now have a syrupy white mixture about the consistency of latex paint.

Add the airfloat charcoal. This stuff will get everywhere if you are not careful. Do not attempt to use it in a draft. It is also very messy and next to impossible to clean up. Stir well. You now have a dark black syrupy mixture about the consistency of latex paint.

Dipping

Dip each preassembled e-match head into the H-3 mixture. Cover only 1/8" of the head. Do not over dip. It only takes a bit. Too much dip will cause failures. We are not making a bomb, we are going to light black powder. Trust me, it doesn't take much.

Dry

Hang the matches head down overnight.

Optional

Dip the finished matches into the NCL for a final coat. This will help protect them. It only takes a light coating to do a good job. Hang to dry.

Testing

Always ground test. Make sure these matches are compatible with your avionics.

Always check resistance on the finished matches. resistance should be between 1 and 2 ohms. These matches will also work with the EZ ejection cannister kit.

These kits ship Parcel Post "ORM-D" Consumer Commodity.

Please Note:

Potassium Chlorate mixtures are friction sensitive. Handle with care.
